Closing Days

I'm counting down the hours until I have to pack the car and head back to Houston. I've had 7 lazy days of snow and skiing, reading, playing on the computer, cooking and staying up late to watch old movies. I think the best thing that happened was when I had to change my password on my SBISD email and got locked out of the whole system. So...nothing work related for the last few days. I didn't even have withdrawals.
I've discovered Smilebox, Scrabble Blast, Words with Friends, some really great blogs and have gotten all my pictures organized.
Just got back from the New Year's Eve torchlight parade. I tried to take some pictures but my hands were FFFRRROOOZZZEEEENNN!! Headed to Slogar's for our traditional NYE fried chicken and then back home to pack.
Happy New Year!!

A Heavenly Day in Crested Butte

What a heavenly day! The temperature started out at -11 before sunrise and quickly warmed up to 7! I skied all morning and ran into Brandon at the top of a lift. His students were happy to let him stop and take a picture with mom. You know the students never think the teachers are real people...with a mom even!!!

Weekend Wonderings

Where do the 48 hours of the weekend go? I always seem to leave school on Friday afternoon with grand plans for all the things I want to accomplish in the next 2 days. Here is all I got done this weekend:
Watched Memorial win their game in perfect football weather on Friday night, slept late, had an extra cup of coffee, read my mail for the week, ran errands, bought new ski clothes, reserved my skis for Christmas at Black Tie Rentals (the best), talked to Brandon for about 3 minutes, cleaned out one more part of my closet, cooked a great new shrimp dish, watched a great movie, went to bed really late and got up really early (trying to make those hours last!), read every bit of the Sunday paper, did mindless internet searching and browsing, more errands, let teachers into the building and worked for 3 hours, worked on my blog, discovered "Under the Dog's Eyebrows" (it's really Audrey), ate great bbq, more blogging, football...football...football, going to bed early so I can start the week all over again. Can't wait for the next 48 hours of fun!!!

Its raining!

I'm not complaining about not having anytime to piddle this summer but....with all the traveling I have not had a day to just piddle around and do not much of anything. That's what I'm doing today. I'm reading several books (on my the Kindle app on my iphone), watching tv, sitting on the couch watching the raindrops hit the pool and visiting with friends pretty much all simultaneously. I love days like this. I have to admit the best part is the thunder and rain. We added 8 plumerias to our plant family this afternoon. The trip to Hawaii prompted this. Of course, when you buy them in Houston no one knows what color they are, how old they are, if they have ever bloomed before or how to care for them. Thank goodness for the internet.

Tweet and Blog

I spent last night trying to figure out the whole Twitter thing. I think I've mastered it. I found some very interesting groups/people to follow and learned a lot. I loved the link I found to you tube with the comparisions of the iPhone and Blackberry. I think I'm going to make the leap from my Blackberry to an iPhone but ... I'm so attached I don't know if I can do it. All opinions lead to the iPhone.
I even got into the apps from the iTunes store to see what was available. The promethean podcast are great. They are short snippits of video to explain different features in the ACTIVboard toolbar. Very clear and easy to learn from.

Memorial Day

I'm having so much fun finding all kinds of things on the internet. Have you heard of LinkedIn? I sent a connection request to LOTS of my contacts so hope to see you connecting soon. There are only seven more days of school with teachers and kids...and then it really gets busy. I'm looking forward to Rummel Creek moving in with us this summer while they are under construction. WITS Summer Writing Camp will be there the month of April. Several of us are headed to Colorado Springs to the Love and Logic Conference. THEN.....2 weeks in Hawaii!!! YEAH!!

Fun day at MWE - click to see our website

What a fun day we had last Friday at MWE. We kicked off Field Day with an Olympic flag parade. Kids made tissue paper flags of over 25 different countries in art and the class flag bearers carried them at the front of each class in our parade. We also had the Texas and MWE flags. The whole school paraded around the track. The StuCo pres was our torch bearer and declared "Let the games begin" as we all gathered around the SPARK Park pavilion to end the parade. The kids had field day events, movie & popcorn, snowcones, picnic lunches and, finally, the Teachers vs Students Kickball game. I have to say the we have some pretty competitive teachers who whomped the students!!

The grand finale of the day was the announcement of the winner (loser?) of the Slime the Teacher contest. Our precious 3rd grade teacher was slimed by members of the Odyssey of the Mind team. They raised $1400 toward their trip to World Competition in Iowa in 2 weeks. Way to go!!

My Birthday Weekend

Two weeks into the new year and I've celebrated another birthday. I feel so blessed to have received so many birthday cheers...I am surrounded by friends and family that are so kind and caring. I didn't just have a birthday but a birth'weekend'. What fun!!
I've finally cleared the Christmas mess off my puzzle table and have started a new puzzle. One of my resolutions is to stay busy so I won't snack in the evenings...puzzles seem to help. So, I guess I'm on The Puzzle Diet. I'll let you know how it goes.
